A Christmas Eve classic from the 1930s, now with rum.

Ingredients [ oz | cl ][ My Bar ]
1 oz Dark Rum[ Add ]
0.5 oz Brandy[ Add ]
1 pinch Nutmeg[ Add ]
4 oz Milk[ Add ]
1 Egg Yolk[ Add ]
2 tsps Honey[ Add ]

Method: Prepare in a blender
Glass: Mug
Recipe:

  1. Blend the egg yolk and honey with the rum and brandy using a blender.
  2. Bring the milk to boil.
  3. Pour all ingredients into a toddy glass.
  4. Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg.

History

In Europe in the 30s, eggnog was traditionally served all winter long, and particularly on Christmas night. This drink was a combination of milk, cream, sugar and egg yolk, flavoured with nutmeg or cinnamon. The Americans added rum, which at the time was known as “grog.” Thus the cocktail became known as “Eggnog!”
